If You Don't Stand for Something, You’ll Fall for Anything.

At our La Violette Società 52 event at Leaf on Bold Street on Tuesday 26 November 2024, we were faced with behaviour before and during the event that fell far below the standards of respect that we expect from everyone involved. As organisers, it’s our responsibility to take action when those values are compromised. That’s exactly what we did.

PJ Smith’s intervention during the event was necessary to demonstrate our zero tolerance approach to disrespect and to support the enjoyment and long-standing integrity of the event. While addressing such issues publicly is never ideal, we believe that standing up for the experience of our audience, all performers and the reputation of our events is more important than staying silent when behaviour crosses the line.

We recognise that these actions may not sit comfortably with everyone and regret any disruption caused. However, we will always prioritise creating a respectful environment. To do anything less would be a disservice to the people who trust us to deliver unique and exceptional events.

Moving forward, we remain committed to upholding the standards that define who we are, ensuring every attendee, performer, venue staff and team member feels valued and respected. This is not just about one event—it’s about maintaining the principles that make our events thrive.
