Emerging from the indie-pop Francophone scene two decades ago as a bassist for Verone, Stéphane Auzenet found his musical counterpart in the summer of 2019 in Mathieu Blanc to plant the seeds of their very special project, The Reed Conservation Society.

Combining Auzenet’s experience with the duo’s shared indie-pop acumen, they forged a vivacious musical identity, heralding the beginnings of their pop-populist revolution.

The Reed Conservation Society’s work to date is a beautiful odyssey, teetering on the profound and intricate.

Their musical journey reaches a milestone with their debut album ‘La Société de Préservation du Roseau’ released by Violette Records on 2 February 2024.

Intricately in French, the 11-track album conveys the duo’s emotional range and composing prowess, capturing the chaos and tranquillity of their world.

Rich in narratives and a nature-evoking sound, they present here a very vivid image. Their album dances between upbeat melodies and songs that evoke the sombre realities of our times.

Auzenet and Blanc deftly combine an array of influences and musical eras to create their unique soundscape.

Contributions from Natacha Tertone, Vincent Mougel, and Emma Broughton accentuate the music’s emotional depth. Their collaborative efforts with long-time sound engineer, Yann Arnaud, has led to lush arrangements that weave a remarkable audio tapestry.
