Away Fixture: La Violette Società Brings Liverpool Spirit to Leamington Spa
La Violette Società 56 artwork by Pascal Blua
An evening of music and storytelling unites four unique voices at The Neighbourhood in Leamington Spa. For one night only, immerse yourself in a blend of folk tradition, indie sensibility, narrative skill and post-punk heritage.
Emma Hughes
Emma is a musician and writer from London. Throughout her twenties, she developed her singing voice by working professionally in a cappella and as a vocalist for the production library 'Extreme Music'. Her influences include indie folk and occasionally, classic country. Emma playfully yet modestly describes her music as 'crying in the car' music. However, her debut EP, released this summer, has depth and will undoubtedly attract a fan base eager to learn more.
Horace Panter
Horace Panter is best known as the bassist of The Specials, a 2-Tone band from Coventry that has earned a reputation as one of Britain's most significant and relevant bands. Over the years, their singles like 'Gangsters', 'Message to You Rudy', and 'Ghost Town' have become deeply embedded in our musical consciousness, addressing themes that remain pertinent today. In the late 1990s, Horace diversified his career by becoming a qualified teacher, educating children in art in North Warwickshire. Since 2010, he has moved into art production, focusing on Iconography and often reflecting the essence of British pop art. Horace has also published his book 'Ska'd for Life' and currently performs with 'The Dirt Road Band', which specialises in blues-based rock music.
Ellis Murphy
A huge talent is emerging from the modern Merseyside music scene. Ellis Murphy has quickly gained a cult following with his writing style and melodies that echo the classic folk scene, where troubadours were the voice of the generation. Recently, Ellis supported former Libertines frontman and solo star Pete Doherty on his tour. He is soon to headline his own show at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
Roy
Story telling has always been and remains one of the most portable, influential and enjoyed art forms worldwide. What makes Roy’s ( PJ Smith ) work so immediately appealing is its contemporary themes that often sway from humour to underlying menace and back again. His stories leave the audience feeling they are deep inside a drama. Roy can leave you tense and sometimes scared for the protagonists. Hopeful at other moments for their redemption. Sometimes his characters can leave you in tears of laughter…..Think Shelagh Delaney if Netflix had of been around then. PJ has supported and collaborated with various bands across the UK. Radio work including Radio 6 seek him out to perform his work and he’s also a regular contributor to various cultural magazines.
He once had a spell at Everton FC…
